metadata schema

Postby lewisr3 » Mon Jul 09, 2012 2:23 pm

Hi, can you tell me what the metadata/fields for eHive are based on? I see a couple of Dublin Core fields, but is it all Dublin Core, or are other types included? Thanks.

The SPECTRUM museum standard was primary schema used. We have around 200 fields covering all of the main elements in the SPECTRUM standard.

Dublin Core is a relatively small subset of this. We recently completed our Open Archives Initiative support for eHive. This allows eHive object records to be harvested by another site via Dublin Core XML. We have one Australian site using this to submit records to Trove (Australia), but the same protocol could be used to submit records to DigitalNZ in New Zealand or Culture Grid in the UK.

There are many crosswalks between common standards. The Getty produced this one: http://www.getty.edu/research/publications/electronic_publications/intrometadata/crosswalks.html

The core eHive fields map well to other standards such as MARC and CDWA (Categories for the Description of Works of Art).

Thanks,
Paul
